Are you interested in spending one day every three months learning more about such topics as health care policy, the reasons for the large differences in the standard of living across countries, and the impact on society of future improvements in the technology of surveillance, computing, and biology?

Would you like to experience my teaching in person?

Would you like a format that allows for plenty of participation and interaction?

Would you like to continue discussions while walking?

Would you like to continue discussions over dinner?

Would you like to meet other people who share your unusual tastes?

Version 0.2

My initial thinking is this:

A group of 8 to 12 participants would sign up for a particular topic.

We would meet on a Sunday (or a Saturday), from 1 PM to 9 PM. The schedule would be as follows:

1:00 - 1:30 informal milling about, conversing

1:30 - 2:15 formal lecture (I will give this)
2:15 - 2:45 formal Q&A (For genuine questions and short comments)
2:45 - 3:45 structured discussion (participants who wish to speak will raise their hands and be called on in turn; no interruptions or side conversations)
3:45 - 5:45 unstructured discussion (also known as conversation) while walking
6:00 - 9:00 unstructured discussion over dinner

I anticipate that afterward we would continue to exchange emails, sharing recommendations for further reading and such.

In my mind, the participants in the first group will be:

If a group of peripatetics forms that is younger than what I was expecting, I might be willing to meet with such a group. If a group forms in some other location, I am willing to travel, assuming expenses can be covered. I will screen out people who I think might make the class unpleasant or unstimulating for others. The fee is yet to be determined.

If you are interested, send me an email or join the group on Facebook. My name is arnold and my domain is I would like to know:
(a) how much you think it is fair to pay in terms of a fee, assuming that dinner is separate?
(b) Would you prefer dinner to be included, at a correspondingly higher fee?
(c) What changes would you propose to the format, and if those changes were made, how much would this increase the amount you answered in (a)?
