About the Indicators

I want to create a set of indicators that allows us to track progress in dealing with the crisis that we face.

  1. For the problem of Arab exterminationism, a positive indicator would be the number of days since the last anti-Jewish diatribe in the state-supported media, as reported by MEMRI. Another indicator would be Arab leaders talking within the Arab world about the opportunities and responsibilities under a peace scenario.

  2. For the problem of European anti-semitism, one indicator would be European countries that vote against anti-Israel resolutions in the UN. Another indicator would be arrests of perpetrators of crimes against Jews.

  3. For the problem of the American news media, a positive indicator would be the appearance of stories that recognize the existence of exterminationism and the implications that it has for Israel and for Jews. Another indicator would be less editorializing on the part of headline writers, editors, and reporters. A third indicator would be for reporters to routinely test what Palestinian diplomats say in English against what their people are told in their own language.

  4. For the problem of left-wing anti-Israel rhetoric on college campuses, an indicator would be anti-Israel demonstrations or petitions that fail to attract more than 5 percent of students. Another indicator would be students making statements or writing columns for college newspapers that indicate that they see through anti-Israel rhetoric.

Here are some indicators related to the UN, from an editorial by Morton Zuckerman.

The Security Council has devoted fully a third of its energy to criticizing Israel. The U.N. Commission on Human Rights has devoted a quarter of its official actions to the same cause

Our goal should be to bring those figures down.

One indicator is the number of days since a viciously anti-semitic article has appeared in the government-supported Arab press. I use MEMRI as a source.

My reading of the MEMRI site is that the latest anti-semitic tirade appeared on April 29, in the Egyptian government daily. That would be just 11 days ago. I hope that this extends to at least 45 days. The column says

"They are accursed in heaven and on earth. They are accursed from the day the human race was created and from the day their mothers bore them. They are accursed also because they murdered the Prophets. They murdered the Prophet John the Baptist and served up his head on a golden platter...

It goes on from there.
