It is a novel that I am reading. Much of the Ultimate Resource is wiped out by a version of the Great Filter. The economy’s hardware layer remains intact, but it loses the software layer of trust and know-how, leading to a breakdown of PSST.

I appreciate that in the novel there’s much less of a breakdown in societal bonds than is typical in other post-apocalyptic novels.
Do you like Station Eleven? Judging form the descriptions, it seems somewhat unlikely and, umm, would be cultured (Shakespeare, much ado about Hollywood) to me.
I finished it. I liked the ending less than the rest of it. I would not have emphasized Shakespeare or Hollywood in my description. The issues that I raised in my post were what stood out for me.
The premise sounds like that of “Earth Abides”, my favorite post apocalyptic tale.
